Abstract

Cervical dilation is a key indicator of labor progress and plays a vital role in determining the readiness of the birth canal for delivery. Various physiological, hormonal, and behavioral factors influence the onset and progression of cervical dilation. Among these, sexual intercourse (coitus) in the third trimester has been hypothesized to support cervical ripening and dilation through mechanisms such as mechanical stimulation of the cervix, the presence of rostaglandins in semen, and the release of oxytocin during orgasm. This study aims to examine the correlation between the frequency of coitus during the third trimester and the efficiency or smoothness of cervical dilation during the early stages of labor. A quantitative, analytic observational study was conducted using a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of third-trimester pregnant women who had reached the latent or active phase of labor and were admitted to selected maternal health care facilities. Data on coital frequency were gathered through structured interviews, while cervical dilation data were extracted from patient records. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test and logistic regression to determine the strength and significance of the association between variables. The findings revealed a significant positive correlation (p < 0.05) between higher coital frequency in the third trimester and more effective cervical dilation. Women who reported engaging in sexual intercourse more frequently were more likely to experience faster and smoother cervical opening compared to those who reported lower or no coital activity. These results support the idea that coitus may be a natural, non-pharmacological method to aid cervical preparation for labor. The conclusive, of this research that there is Significant Correlation. Between. Coitus. fregnancy and the progressive of Cervical Dilation in the Third trisemester of Pregnancy. It is suggested the result of this study can be consideration in giving Education to pregnant mother. especially the benefit of save coitus during Pregnancy.
